Use a to-do list to improve your productivity

I would like to start this post by quoting from my earlier post:

“What is a task list? The short answer to this question is: a list of things that you need to do to accomplish something.

If you would like to read about what a task list is, please refer to my previous blog post: What is a task list?.

There are several reasons why a to-do list makes you more productive. In this blog post I am only going to focus on the most important benefit that you get from a to-do list.

Humans by their nature feel good when they can keep their promises. It is a very sad moment when you have to admit that you did not do well as was planned, especially when the plan was designed by yourself.

To be successful you need to master time management, and one of the core skills is to write down and plan your tasks on a to-do list. To do this you can use a to-do list software to keep track of your task list and due dates. The due dates will serve as a reminder so that you put more effort to finish off the tasks. Entering tasks on a to-do list will serve as a kind of contract with yourself.

That is exactly why you will put in extra effort and walk that extra mile to achieve your goals when organising your life through a to-do list. The to-do list “contract” with yourself makes you more committed. Tasks are clearly defined as opposed to floating around in your head, waiting to be forgotten or easily brushed away as unimportant.

Tasks on a to-do list serve as a constant reminder that you have things to do. You will thus focus on those tasks and get things done.

When the deadline is reached, you will be able to strike off the task from your task list. The act of marking tasks on your task list as ready will give you a sense of achievement and a morale boost. This is a reward you deserve for putting in extra effort to keep up with the deadlines.

Although it sounds simple, organising your time and plans by making use of a to-do list software is crucial for being successful and achieving your goals in life.
