Quite often, we associate the word champion with Olympics, World Cup or similar competitive events for different sports. However, being a champion does not only mean to win such events.
Being a champion is an attitude in whatever you do. The short description of a champion is “The best in what s/he does”. In this post I will outline 5 tips on how to become a champion in what you do.
In order to achieve something you first have to know clearly what you want to achieve. This will help you focus your effort in order to achieve it. For instance, an athlete will have the Olympics gold medal as his goal.
Make a plan to reach that goal
Goals are static. A plan is the sequence of actions to reach a goal. Familiarise yourself with what training you need, what skills you require and after all what sacrifices you need to do. As part of your plan to achieve a goal, make sure that you find a way to measure how close you are from reaching your goal. This will motivate you to work more since you will see the progress you are making in realising your goal.
Aim high
Apart from being a nice cliché to use, this point is very valid. Always aim high in what you do. People do not like to break promises, especially promises that they make with themselves. Therefore the fact that you aim high and promise yourself that you will reach a particular goal in a certain amount of time, will make you work more and walk that extra mile to achieve your goal.
No Pain, No Gain
If you do not stretch your limits and work harder every time, then you will never improve. A real champion likes to achieve more every time and is never happy to achieve the same result twice. When you adopt the philosophy of a champion, you look at limits as a starting point. You always try to extend limits and set better records.
Not Afraid of Competition
A real champion likes competition because it serves as a motivator to put one’s skills to the test. If you achieve positive results, you will boost your morale and in the future will work more to keep those good results and possibly improve upon them.
